Camp Week 7: A Crazy kids week.

This past week was grueling.

So anyway, this was our infamous kids week. And they well full of energy. We played a lot of sports this week.

So I had my deaf camper again, like last year. This year, one of our other campers was an interpreter for him. So I still had a lot of help like before.

If that's where I really needed it.

Some of those kids just didn't listen. And some wouldn't go to bed at night.

Exhausting!

But we still did a lot of fun stuff. On Tuesday, I planned a field trip to the Carnegie Science Center. But it was adjusted to go to the CSC branch "SportsWorks" instead. But it was still a lot of fun. Zach, AMber, DOris and I went, and with the campers (that I picked to go) we raced, played abstract miniture golf. rode simulated roller coasters, I rode a high cycls, which was scary. So it was fun.

Anyhow, dances and hayrides went on well at camp. Then Thursday we had "Raeann's Race". There in three teams, we played water tee ball, kicked soccer balls, went down another slip-n-slide, and had fun with that. Then there was the grand finale, involving one staff from each team. I wanted to volunteer for it, but Cristin, who was on my team, beat me to it. Anyhow, she, Mitch, and Erika, were blindfolded and made into human ice cream sundaes, unaware of what was being dumped on them. But we had chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, cherries, butterscotch, whipped cream, and it was all over them.

Wow!

Week 7 Winners:
Robert Dubs
Zach Hill
Cristin Leahy
Lauren "Aussie" Pinfold
(Also the guy who was interpereter for my deaf camper was on out team. For confidentiality reasons, his name is not printed here.)

Then we again went to the dance in the Kon-o-Kwee dining hall. Fun! Lots of music, refreshments, and dancing there.

But due to the lack of sleep I got, (I had three sleep duties, and a camp out night), I was quite exhausted by the time the week was over.

Two more to go...

Camp Week 6: A camera and some hot weather.

This past week was a scorcher of one.

To start if off, Mitch gave me a camera, and I took photos all week.

Anyhow, we did a lot of swimming this week, because of the hot weather. And the staff did a lot of swims during rest hour too. That was fun.

Tuesday night, we had Raeann's Race, water style. To my dismay, I was on the "Pavilion" team, which the team of campers that didn't participate in the activities. But I wouldn't let that stop me from getting wet. I took some campers up to try out the activies.

Raeann's Race Winners:
Amber Atkinson
Justin Brown
Mitch Carnethan

Wednesday night, (My Geometry class is over now) I went on a field trip with Ember and Cristin, to Chippewa to see a parade. We ate at the Hot Dog Shoppe, and we watched the parade. It had a lot of Fire Trucks, in it. IT was cool.

Then that night, I went on a star-light hike, through Kon-o-Kwee, with Amber, Heather, Sam, Fred, and Justin. Fun, but slightly scary. Aaron later said we weren't allowed to do that. SO we won't be doing that again.

Like I said before, I took a lot of pictures this week.
Here are some examples:
Zach in a green suit and flip-flops.
Justin wearing AMber's sunglasses.
Marc, Raeann and Nathaniel in the dining hall.
Me giving a cut-out of Kevin Harvik bunny ears.
Me and Heather after I dumped gallons of water over her head at water games.
Erika laughing.
John Locke (at RMU)

...And many more.

Now I'm really mad though. A large group of us was going to go to Sandcastle today. But it rained.

So I'm just doing chores and studying sign language now. THe deaf boy is coming next week.

Camp Week 5: Lost camper!

Week five is over now.

Here's how it went.

There was a lot of rain/liquid sunshine this week. In fact, the campouts got moved to Thursday night, because we couldn't do it tuesday or Wednesday night.

Wow.

But we still had some real sunshine, so the rest of our activities went as planned.

However, I had a bad break Thursday night. While hiking up to Ryanwood, Thursday night, one camper walked up the wrong trail...and I didn't even notice. We were lucky though, becaue Jess found him and brought him back to us. I still felt stupid and the other staff didn't help much.

Take a bow, Genius!

Yesterday, I went to the Lawn Fete at my church. I ran into another camper there. Maybe I'll see him later on this Summer.

Four more weeks to go.

Camp Week 4: Fireworks, Screamers, and Coed Campouts

Ah, the end of a Young Adults Week.

Here's how it went.

Still a lot of rain er liquid sunshine at the beginning of the week, but it did clear up. So, we still did all our activities as usual.

I had three guys this week. One guy screamed continously, and another, got a cut midway through the week, and howled whenever picking at it.

It's a wonder I didn't go deaf.

So anyhow, due to feared showers, the Tuesday men's campout was moved to Wednesday, the same time as the girls. Mitch and I went to go to the top of the hill, the Cristin and Heather, and a coed group, for the first time ever as long as I've worked at camp. This idea was well liked, and we will probably continue having campouts this way for the rest of summer.

On Tuesday, Nicole, Erika, and I took a group up to Norgh Gate Plaza to see Fourth of July fireworks. I thought it was a rip-off though. But it still was better than no fireworks at all.

By the way, I missed Raeann's Race again, but here is...

The Winning Team:
Mitch Carnethan
Cristin Leahy
Heather Orton
(The same three I camped out with that week)

Now, I'm mad though. Yesterday, after camp, I was supposed to go to Sing Sing: a dueling piono bar in the Waterfront with the others, but I left my driver's liscense locked up in the Men's Unit, and couldn't go.

Oh well. Later...

Camp Week 3: Liquid Sunshine Superman

What a week. Not a bad week, except for Friday.

So, it was another regular week. But in the beginning all it did was rain, or as we at camp call it, "Liquid Sunshine". Despite it, we still carried on with activities, even swimming.

By Monday night, the rain cleared up and it was nice for the rest of the week.

Wednesday, was Zach's birthday, and was also the opening day for the movie "Superman Returns". Since Zach is an avid fan of Superman, we had a Superman themed picnic/party for him.

Also, Raeann's race was that night. I missed it, but still have the winning team posted.

Winning team:
Justin Brown
Cristin Leahy
Lauren "Aussie" Pinfold

Friday at camp was bad for me though. First, my one camper refused to let me pack his stuff, and attacked me as I tried to. Almost bit me on the back. But I still pulled through. Second I spilled hot water on my feet and burned them pretty good. Raeann put ketchup on them later, saying that the acid wild absorb the pain.
Finally one of my other campers was delayed in leaving. So I stayed with him. Marc said I could leave earlier, but I chose not to. I didn't get out of camp intill 3:45 though.

Then, that night, a whole bunch of us, (Zach, Mitch, Fred, Amber, Tara, Trish, Jess, Sam, Erika, Phil, and Celeste) went to the movies to see "Superman Returns" It was good. I think. Then today, Fred Mitch, Phil, Celeste, and I helped Jess move into her new house, from Bloomfield to Shadyside. Good thing I owed Jess money, months ago, otherwise I would've never found her place.

So Week 4 is coming up soon.
